All your settings (API keys, persona, preferences) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. If you're signed into Chrome, these settings sync across your devices — but that's handled entirely by Google, not us.

Troubleshooting

⚠️ "No API key configured"

Solution

Click the RedSutra extension icon in your Chrome toolbar
Go to the API Keys tab
Enter your API key for at least one provider
Click Validate to test the key
Click Save

✗ "Invalid API key"

Solution

Make sure you copied the full API key (no extra spaces)
Check that the key has API access enabled in your provider's dashboard
Verify you have credits/quota remaining (for paid tiers)
Try regenerating a new key from the provider's console

⚠️ "Rate limited - try later"

Solution

You've hit the API provider's rate limit. This is common with free tiers.

Wait a few minutes and try again
If using Gemini free tier, consider upgrading or switching providers
Try using a different API provider as backup

Reply not inserting into text box

Solution

Make sure the Reddit reply box is open and visible
Try clicking inside the text box first to focus it
If insertion fails, RedSutra automatically copies the reply to your clipboard — just paste with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac)
Try refreshing the Reddit page

Extension shows "Reload page"

Solution

This happens when the extension was updated while you had Reddit open.

Simply refresh the Reddit page (F5 or Ctrl+R)
The extension will reload with the new version

Tone pills not appearing

Solution

Make sure you've clicked "Reply" on a Reddit post or comment
Wait for the reply box to fully load
Check if the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions
Try refreshing the page
Make sure you're on reddit.com (not a third-party Reddit client)

Add Your API Key

Click the RedSutra icon in your Chrome toolbar, go to the API Keys tab, paste your key, click Validate, then Save.

Configure Your Voice (Optional)

Go to the Voice tab and either select a persona template or fill in your custom profile. The more specific your quirks and writing style, the more human-like your replies will sound.

Pro tip: Add specific quirks like "uses 'tbh' a lot" or "keeps responses under 2 sentences" for maximum authenticity.

Start Generating Replies

Browse Reddit, click Reply on any post or comment, and you'll see the tone pills appear. Click a tone to generate a reply, then edit and post!
