Privacy Policy
Last updated: December 27, 2025
🛡️ TL;DR: RedSutra doesn't collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data. Your API keys and settings stay on your device.
Overview
RedSutra is a Chrome extension that generates AI-powered replies for Reddit. We built it with privacy as a core principle. We don't want your data, and we've designed the extension so we never receive it.
What We Don't Collect
Let's be clear about what RedSutra does NOT do:
- We do NOT collect your personal information
- We do NOT store your API keys on any server
- We do NOT track your browsing activity
- We do NOT collect analytics or telemetry
- We do NOT read or store your Reddit data
- We do NOT have user accounts or logins
- We do NOT have any backend servers
How RedSutra Works
RedSutra operates entirely within your browser:
- API Keys: Your API keys (Gemini, OpenAI, xAI) are stored locally in Chrome's storage on your device. They never leave your browser except to authenticate with the respective AI provider you chose.
- Persona Settings: Your profile settings (profession, interests, etc.) are stored locally on your device.
- Reddit Content: When you click "Generate Reply," the extension reads the visible content on the Reddit page and sends it directly to your chosen AI provider. This data is not sent to us.
Third-Party Services
RedSutra connects directly to the AI provider you configure:
- Google Gemini: Subject to Google's Privacy Policy
- OpenAI: Subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy
- xAI (Grok): Subject to xAI's Privacy Policy
When you generate a reply, the Reddit post content is sent directly from your browser to your chosen AI provider. We have no visibility into this data.
Data Storage
All data is stored locally using Chrome's chrome.storage.sync API:
- API keys (encrypted by Chrome)
- Your default API preference
- Your persona/profile settings
This data syncs across your Chrome browsers if you're signed into Chrome, but it's handled entirely by Google Chrome—not by us.
Permissions Explained
RedSutra requests the following Chrome permissions:
- reddit.com access: Required to inject the "Generate Reply" button and read post content when you click it.
- Storage: Required to save your API keys and settings locally.
- AI provider domains: Required to send requests to Gemini, OpenAI, and xAI APIs.
Children's Privacy
RedSutra is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
